Kathmandu : Former British Gurkhas and their family members in the UK who have been affected by the Corona virus (Covid-19) epidemic have been taken seriously by the British Ministry of Defense and committed to resolving the problem, said Sharad Raj Arun, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepali Embassy in London.
At present, the Ministry of Defense has been resolving the issue from various agencies including the Gorkha Welfare Trust and if necessary, the Ministry of Defense has requested through the Nepalese Embassy in London to contact the Gorkha Welfare Advice Center in person or through someone else.
On April 27 last month, the Nepalese embassy in London requested the British government to provide necessary assistance to the former Gurkhas and their family members in the UK who were infected with corona. The Ministry of Defense informed about this in response to the request letter made by the embassy.
Non-resident Nepalis around the world have also been affected by the corona virus (Covid-19) which has spread like an epidemic in 110 countries of the world. The number of non-resident Nepalis dying from corona infection is much higher in the UK than in other countries.
According to the Nepali embassy in London, 40 Nepalis have died of coronavirus in the UK so far, said Sharad Raj Arun, the embassy’s deputy chief of staff. But a few days ago, the Non-Resident Nepali Association Health Committee said that the number of non-resident Nepalis dying from corona infection in the UK was 49.
Former Gurkha Narayan Konme Gurung, a 75 year old Gurkha in the UK, has died of corona infection just yeasterday. The number of ex-Gurkha soldiers killed by corona is higher.
