Kathmandu : A large amount of Indian currency has been recovered today during an investigation at the Integrated Customs Check Post, Biratnagar. Morang Superintendent of Police Bishwa Adhikari said that two persons were arrested along with 1 crore 9 lakh 79 thousand and 530 Indian rupees being smuggled into Nepal from the check post.
Police have arrested a truck (WB 73 E 7677) from Supaul, India while it was hidden in a cartoon during a serch operation. Police have arrested the truck driver Ravi Kumar Sharma and co-driver Pappu Kumar, both of whom are Indian nationals.
Police estimate that the truck had entered Biratnagar carrying goods from Biratnagar to Siliguri, India and that the money could used for money laundering. The recovered amount was handed over to the Revenue Office, Itahari, said Superintendent of Police Netra Bahadur Karki.
