Floods in Afghanistan 16 killed, including 12 children

Kathmandu : At least 16 people have been killed in floods after continuous rains in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province.

Most of those killed in Friday night’s floods were children, officials said. The floods also damaged hundreds of other homes and infrastructure, official said.

The incident took place in Kozkunar district of Nangarhar province, said Atullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the provincial government.

“Of the 16 people killed in the floods after heavy rains, 12 were children,” he said. A spokesman for Khogyani said four other children were still missing after the floods.

He said the rescue operation was underway, the injured were being treated and the search for the missing was continuing.
