Kathmandu : Police have arrested a fugitive defendant in a kidnapping, hostage-taking and murder case after six years.
The arrested is Naresh Meche, 38, of Jhapa Mechinagar Municipality-12. he was absconding after being sentenced to 17 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 150,000 in a case of organized kidnapping and hostage-taking by a district court of Jhapa on Asar 21, 2073 BS. He was arrested from Hotel Kathmandu Inn.
A man living in Jhapa Birtamod Municipality-6 was abducted by people including Meche on Magh 17, 2071 and held hostage at his house in Dharampur, Jhapa.
The district court of Jhapa had sentenced Meche to imprisonment and fine in the incident in which one policeman was also injured. He has been sent to District Police Office, Jhapa for necessary action, according to the Central Investigation Bureau, Maharajganj.
