Indonesia’s Ili Lewotolok erupted on Sunday sending 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) of ash and smoke and forcing thousand of people to leave their homes.
More than 2,700 people were evacuated from 28 villages on the slope of the volcano, which is located on the eastern island of Lembata in the East Nusa Tenggara province.
There are no reports of injuries or damage from the eruption on Sunday in a remote part of southeast Asian archipelago. But the authorities raised the volcano’s alert status to its second-highest level as they warned of possible lava flows.
