Kathmandu : The local administration has banned the famous Bisket Jatra in Bhaktapur this year as the risk of spreading corona infection has increased.
The meeting decided to stop the Bisket Jatra saying that it would create a frightening situation as the infection would spread due to the crowd of devotees during the procession.
Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Bhattari informed the the work at pulling the lingo and pulling the chariot has been stopped. He said “It has been decided to worship the chariot but not to lift the lingo and pull the chariot.”
The main attraction of the Bisket Jatra is the hundreds of people pulling the three wheeled Bhairav chariot in the style of pagoda. The Bisket Jatra is attended by thousands of people from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur as well as the surrounding districts.
Last year, the local administration banned the Bisket Jatra due to the corona infection.
The Bisket Jatra, which is celebrated for eight days and nine nights, is starting from Chaitra 28 this year.
