Kathmandu : A male rhinoceros has been found dead in Chitwan National Park.
According to Lokendra Adhikari, information officer of the park, a male rhinoceros was found dead in Budhirapti field of Sukhibhar area of the park on Thursday.
The rhino was about 30 years old. Rhino horns and hooves are safe. The Sukhibhar area of the park has been inhabited by most rhinos.
According to the information officer, the initial examination of the dead rhino by the park showed that the death was due to natural causes.
So far in the current fiscal year, 31 rhinos have died. Four of them have died due to poaching and 27 due to natural causes. In the previous fiscal year, 26 rhinos had died due to natural causes.
According to a recent census, there were 694 rhinos in Chitwan National Park.
