Emergency flights allowed from four airports except Kathmandu

Kathmandu : In case of emergency, the airline will be able to get flight permission from four more airport offices in Mofasal besides Kathmandu.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to allow emergency flights from four airports in Mofasal besides Tribhuvan Airport.

According to NEA sources, emergency flights can be obtained from Tribhuvan Airport Office, Nepalgunj Civil Aviation Office, Pokhara Civil Aviation Office, Surkhet Civil Aviation Office and Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla.

Earlier, emergency flights were allowed only from Kathmandu. The government has suspended domestic scheduled flights with effect from Tuesday, calling for control of the corona virus epidemic.

International scheduled flights will be closed from tomorrow (Thursday). However, in the meantime, medical, mountaineering climbers can be rescued. Cargo and chartered flights can also be done. NEA has also requested the concerned offices to send the details of the flight permits issued to the head office.

Thousands of climbers and allies are now in the Khumbu area. They are starting to climb the mountain within the next one or two weeks. Helicopters will then have to rescue those who are stranded during the ascent.

Also, those returning from mountaineering have to be brought to Kathmandu from Lukla. In that situation, the airlines have now opened the way to rescue tourists by getting flight permission from the office of the Civil Aviation Authority in Lukla.

Helicopter rescue operations are also being carried out across the country for critically ill patients due to the corona virus epidemic.
