Dr. Ghanshyam Khatiwada, executive director of the Pashupati Area Development Fund, said that the construction of 10 pyre was started after there was difficulty in managing the corpses due to lack of proper pyre on the banks of the Bagmati.
In the past, corpses from corona infections were managed only in electric crematoriums. But as the number of deaths from corona has increased in recent days, burning has also started on the banks of the Bagmati.
But there was a problem in the management of corpses as there was no organized pyre in the area. Spokesperson of the Nepal Army Santosh Ballabh Poudel said that cremation has been started as per the need for the management of the body of the deceased.
One of the three machines of Pashupati’s electric crematorium has broken down. Khatiwada, executive director of the fund, said that 45 corpses could be managed in the crematorium every day while all the three machines were in operation.
He said that up to 90 corpses can be managed in a day including electric crematorium after constructing 10 pyres.
