According to the Nepalese Embassy in Beijing, China has promised to provide 400 units of oxygen cylinders and 10 ventilators within four days in the first phase.
On Thursday, the team, including Nepal’s Ambassador to China Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, met with officials of the Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), a body under the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials of the vaccine manufacturer Sinoform, After the video talks between China and five South Asian countries in the second half of last Bhaisak, China has decided to send 5 million RMB worth of oxygen cylinders to Nepal.
China has said it will provide the remaining oxygen cylinders in the second and third phases, respectively. Similarly, out of the 2 million doses that Nepal wants to buy, 1 million doses of corona vaccine can be made available to May.
“The Chinese side has agreed to provide immediate assistance by May 10,” Pandey said after a meeting with CIDCA Director General Pai Pin. “China has said it will immediately produce 400 oxygen cylinders and 10 ventilators. The sooner we can get the rest, the sooner the aid will reach Nepal.”
Many countries around the world are waiting for the Chinese vaccine because of the corona epidemic. Yo Ping, vice president of Sinofarm, said the Chinese vaccine had reached 64 countries around the world, adding that demand was growing.
“Considering the current situation in Nepal due to Corona, Sinofarm has indicated that it can take the initiative for 1 million doses in 2-3 weeks,” said Sushil Lamsal, Minister of Embassy.
China will prepare the remaining 1 million doses of the vaccine by the end of July. China had earlier donated 800,000 doses of corona vaccine.
