Kathmandu : The Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) will be brought into operation from Shrawan 1st. Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel while announcing the budget for the fiscal year 2078/79 said that the technology will be operational from Shrawan 1.
According to him, after the technology comes into operation, the illegally imported (unregistered) mobile phones will come under control. The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTAA) numbers since 2073 BS.
NEA had invited tenders for the selection of consultants to connect the illegal mobile blocking system (MDMS) on Bhaisak 28, 2074. Out of the 13 companies that applied for the tender called by NEA, the company selected in Asar 2076 BS had to connect the system within six months.
OSI Consulting Pvt. Ltd. India and Namaste Global Com Pvt. Ltd. Singapore were selected as joint ventures.
The company was awarded a contract worth Rs 800 million to connect MDMS. The MDMS system is supposed to be connected and operational within six months from the date of the agreement, i.e. in poush last year, but the connection has been stopped due to the prohibition imposed by the Government of Nepal last year and the current prohibition imposed in view of the corona infection.
NEA has started registering International Mobile Equipment Indentifier (IMEI) number ‘Unique Code’ from Bhaisak 2073 BS. In the first phase, IMEI number registration and in the second phase, the mobile device management system (MDMS) will be connected.
