Truck and driver used to transport illegal sugar under control

Kathmandu : Armed Police have arrested the driver of a truck used to transport illegally smuggled sugar.

A team of Inspector Dil Bahadur Pant of the Armed Police Force Border Outpost Bakhari BOP seized 70 bags of sugar smuggled from India on Thursday afternoon. The sugar seized by the police is worth Rs 210,000. According to SP Tirtha Poudel of Armed Police Force Morang, BOP Bakhari also seized a mini truck (Ko 1 Kha 2129) with illegal sugar from Bramhapura, Biratnagar-6.

The Armed Police have also arrested Rajesh Kumar Khatvi, 28, of Sunsari Devanganj Gaonpalika-2, the driver of a mini truck carrying sugar. It has been revealed that the driver Khatvi had taken the responsibility of delivering sugar to Bhattimod in Biratnagar.

The vehicle seized by the police belongs to Bisandev Mehta of Devanganj-2. The sugar smuggled from India was brought to Amarduwa in Sunsari. Armed Police arrested the smugglers while they were loading sugar in a truck from Amarduwa and bringing it to Biratnagar.

According to a police source, the smuggled sugar belings to Arvin Yadav, who runs a wholesale shop in Kaptangunj of Sunsari. He used to send the smuggled sugar to various cities in the east including Biratnagar.

The recovered sugar has been handed over to the Biratnagar Customs Office by BOP Bakhari.
