Kathmandu : The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that 115,000 health workers have died due to coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.
At a regular media briefing, WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom said 115,000 health workers had died in the 18 month old Corona epidemic. He added that corona infection has been confirmed in one million people who are currently working on the identification, treatment control and management of the infected. He said that the issued of gender inequality should be given priority while celebrating 2021 as the Internation Year of Health and Care Workers.
“About 70 percent of the world’s health workers are women, with about 90 percent being nurses and midwives and 50 percent being physicians,” he said. “World health and care depends on women health workers, how much respect and importance we give to women health workers.”
Stating that women health workers should be given equal facilities and importance, he stressed on the need to unite to prevent discrimination and violence against them.
