Man arrested with 15 kg of marijuana

Kathmandu : District Police Office, Khotang has arrested a man with cannabis. The arrested is Magam Rai, 57, of Halesi Bazaar in Halesi Tuvachung Municipality-7, police said. He was arrested with 15 kg of marijuana from his own house last night as part of an illegal drug control drive, police said.

According to Inspector Sagar Sah, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Khotang, the team searched the house and found the amount of cannabis. He informed that a case related to drugs has been registered against Rai and he has been remanded in custody for further investigation.

According to him, the initial investigation by the police has revealed that Rai has been dealing cannabis illegally in Halesi area for a long time.

Earlier, police had seized 20 kg of cannabis from the house of Kul Bahadur Rai alias KV of Ratmate in Halesi Tuvachung Municipality-7 on Chaitra 4. According to the police, Rai, who was involved in cannabis trade, is currently absconding. Meanwhile, police arrested a young man on Saturday with a loaded gun. The arrested is Khagendra Rai, 37, of Anselukharka in Halesi Tuvachung Municipality-7.

According to the District Police Office, Rai was arrested on the basis of information that he was hiding a loaded firearm in his house. The local administration has also started an illegal arms free campaign in the district which has ten locals levels.

Under the campaign, 17 loaded guns were collected from Ainselukharka Gaonpalika-4 Jaleshwari last Thursday.
