Kathmandu : Indian nationals who came to Kathmandu from Dubai carrying gold in their bags have easily passed their gold through X-ray of Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office.
Siraj Madapat Baputte, an Indian national, landed at Kathmandu Airport on the morning of Mangsir 24. He had three gold biscuits in his backpack. The biscuit weighed 350 grams. The customs staff at the airport customs office’s X-ray machine ignored the gold in his bag.
Carrying a bag passed by an X-ray machine, he walked toward the airport’s internal terminal. Baputte, who came to Kathmandu from Dubai via Kuwait via Jajira Air flight number J9-539, was going to Simara from Gun Air flight number 541. Police personnel stationed in the hold baggage area towards the internal terminal asked him to put his bag in the X-ray machine.
After the machine ‘detected’ the gold, 350 grams of gold was found in the bag. Siraj Madapat Baputte, 50, has been handed over to the airport customs office for legal action, said SSP Rajesh Nath Bastola of the airport security office.
